Since 1999. the Board of Directors of ABiCC elect every year a winner for the ABiCC Award for Leadership in Global Trade. The winners actions must have had a major international impact on free trade and his/her actions must have influenced positively in the well-being of countries and their people. In 2007, the winner is the Nobel Peace Prize Winner of 2006, Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, for his leadership in accelerating economic and social development in Bangladesh and in other countries around the world by creating a revolutionary model of banking practice that allows millions of poor to have an opportunity to develop their dreams and skills, and thereby lift themselves out of poverty. The winners have been: 1999 Lech Walesa, Former President of
Poland and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Award for Leadership in the Americas In 2005, the Board of Directors of ABiCC decided to recognize individuals whose efforts have fostered dialogue, openness, cooperation and understanding within and between countries in the Americas, to create a better climate of stability, with the aim of promoting better conditions for investment and prosperity. The winner has been: 2005 Jose Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States(OAS) Lars Hummerhielm Award ABiCC was founded in 1997 by the late Lars Hummerhielm who had been President of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce for many years. In 2003, ABiCC created a new yearly Award in memory of Mr. Hummerhielm. The mission of the Award is to recognize individuals who have contributed extensively to ABiCC and the international business community in Florida.
